Once, in my back yard here, a hawk swooped down and took a small bird in his talons, and headed for the woods to have it for his dinner. Immediately a mixed-species group of the little bird’s friends flew off after the hawk, but were unable to catch up to it. Then they all flew back to my rooftop and spent the next half-hour trying to console each other, cooing and clucking mournfully. It was really touching.
OK, maybe I’m anthropomorphizing a bit, but birds can seem awfully human sometimes!
Husband centipede to wife centipede: “Honey, can you hurry up a bit, we’re going to be late for the party.”
Annoyed wife centipede: “Dear, please be patient….I’m still putting on my SHOES!”
(and check out my photo album from Long Island)
Love and blessings to you, Tom, Oscar and Charlie!
